Cookie Policy

What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files a website places on your device. They allow the site to remember information about you across page loads and visits. This policy explains every cookie Kin sets, why, and how long it lasts.
Cookies Kin sets
Kin uses strictly necessary cookies only. These cookies are required for the service to function and cannot be switched off. No consent banner is required for strictly necessary cookies under the ePrivacy Directive (Recital 66).
| Cookie name | Purpose | Duration | Set by |
|---|---|---|---|
| kin_session | Authentication session token. Keeps you signed in and identifies your account across requests. Set as HttpOnly + Secure + SameSite=Lax. | 7 days (sliding) | Kin (first-party) |
| kin_guest | Guest session identifier. Preserves your conversation context before you create an account. Stored in localStorage (not a cookie), but listed here for transparency. Contains only a random UUID — no personal data. | Until browser storage cleared | Kin (first-party) |
| __stripe_mid __stripe_sid | Set by Stripe during the payment checkout flow for fraud prevention and link-to-payment association. Only present when you visit the Stripe checkout page. Stripe's use of these cookies is governed by Stripe's Cookie Policy. | __stripe_mid: 1 year __stripe_sid: 30 min | Stripe (third-party) |
What we do NOT use cookies for
- Analytics or visitor tracking
- Advertising or retargeting
- Cross-site tracking
- A/B testing or experimentation
- Social media integration
Because Kin only uses strictly necessary cookies, no consent banner is shown. If this changes — for example if we add analytics — we will update this policy and implement consent management before deploying those cookies.
How to control cookies
You can delete or block cookies through your browser settings. Note that blocking the session cookie (kin_session) will sign you out of Kin and require you to sign in again on every visit.
Browser-specific instructions:
Legal basis
Strictly necessary cookies are processed under Article 6(1)(b) GDPR (necessary for the performance of the contract — providing the Kin service) and Recital 66 of the ePrivacy Directive (cookies essential to deliver a service explicitly requested by the user).
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if we add new cookies. The "last updated" date at the top reflects when the cookie inventory was last audited.
